It's official: the Tompkins Square hawks have an egg!
I'm not sure exactly when the egg was laid, but it could have been any time between Saturday, March 29 and Monday, March 31. There could be one or two more eggs laid before the hawks take up sitting on the nest full time.
Previous hawk posts.
Nice. That's a great shot.
ReplyDeleteI suppose I should add this is *not* an April Fools joke. :)
ReplyDeleteHow eggciting! And that is a remarkable photo! One of your best ever!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks, Marty! This is very exciting...I've never seen hawk eggs or chicks.
ReplyDeleteThe photo above was actually taken by another photographer, whose work you can see here: http://fotoportmann.com/birds/
We're experimenting with a camera and will see if the set-up will work out. If so, it could be really fun and interesting.
Thank you Rachel Carson.
ReplyDeleteWow - what a view of the world from the nest. And doesn't that little egg look impressive set against NYC!
ReplyDeleteThis is great. Now that the NYU camera won't be up this year, wouldn't it be wonderful to have one at this site? Almost unbelievable.. It's great that the homeowner is amenable to photos... this is going to be a magical Spring for her/him. I am jealous. Gog, I am the person who wanted to purchase some of your hawk photos. Do you have them on instagram, or...
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Thanks! For now, I have loads of photos on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/goggla/sets/
ReplyDeleteI'm experimenting with prints and would love to do a book featuring these two hawks spanning the time they arrived in the park to when they leave for the summer.
It's really a shame the NYU camera isn't running this year. If the TSP hawks do well, maybe a web cam could be arranged next time.
