Here are some photos from the Cannabis Peace March in Union Square this last Saturday. It wasn't until I looked at my pictures later that I realized hardly anyone is smiling. I think this is due to the extremely bright sky and glare, which made everyone squint. In actuality, the rally had a very positive and upbeat vibe.
Meet former NYPD Lieutenant Joanne Naughton. She spoke on behalf of LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) and had some very interesting things to say about the cost of keeping up the "war on drugs" and our overcrowded prison system. For more information on the LEAP organization, check out their website.

They were squinting because of the sun in their eyes? Right.
ReplyDeleteIt still amazes me that pot is illegal! Think of the money the government could make by legalizing it and taxing it like cigarettes. The photos are great, I especially like the last one!
ReplyDeleteHahaha!
ReplyDeleteThere were some great speakers who addressed that issue, as well as other legal nonsense. The stop-and-frisk law is insane (and unconstitutional, if you ask me), resulting over 50k people being arrested each year in NYC alone.
ReplyDeleteCorrection - there were over 200,000 stop-and-frisk searches in NYC in the first three months of 2012.
