Cash Mob follow-up
A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in last night's Cash Mob at Odessa Restaurant. Communities can only survive if we support each other, so your presence meant a lot.

Upgrading the comment system
Due to recent changes with Blogger, I've upgraded my comment system to Disqus. This should enable easier commenting and the ability to receive follow-up notifications to comments and posts. This is something that Blogger dropped, and it annoyed the hell out of me, so Disqus will be able to handle this.
Old comments on old posts should reappear (if they are not currently visible) in the next 24 hours or so.
If you have any trouble logging in, commenting, or just have a general complaint about the new system, please let me know. If you are unable to comment, you can notify me directly at thegoglog[at]gmail.com.
If all goes well, I hope other Blogger bloggers (heh!) follow suit. Thanks!

Reminder: Cash mob at Odessa - tonight!
Tonight at 6pm, gather your friends and meet up for the very first East Village Cash Mob at Odessa Restaurant on Ave A, between 7th Street and St Mark's Place.
For more details, see Jeremiah's Vanishing New York and EV Grieve.
The purpose is to show support for our local businesses, generating money and buzz. Odessa was selected (via a vote on Facebook) as the first EV business to mob. If this goes well, I think it would be a great event to do regularly, with many businesses getting involved.
Come out tonight to meet your neighbors for food, fun, drinks and more!
Oh, and bring cash!

Survivor
I've always loved this little townhouse on E 4th Street, which now sits in the shadow of a ginormous finger building. It lives and breathes, illuminating an otherwise austere stretch of sidewalk.

Cash Mob at Odessa
Save the date! Wednesday, March 7 at 6pm - Cash Mob at Odessa Restaurant.
See Jeremiah's Vanishing New York for further details. The intention is to show support for local businesses and, if this event goes well, it would be nice to do the same for others.
This is a great way to show community spirit, meet people, and (I hope) have fun! So, please spread the word and see you there!
And bring ca$h!

Ten years with Mr Monty
Today is a special day as my little companion has been with me now for ten years. Way back when, I was still reeling from 9/11 and needed company. One night, as I was walking up 9th Avenue at 44th Street, I saw this beautiful face with giant green eyes in a shop window. The rest is history.

Reverend Stephen Phelps and Peter Yarrow
Here is more video from the OWS rally at Union Square on February 28.
First up is the Reverend Stephen Phelps, of Riverside Church, who reminds us "what a human life is for":
Next up, Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary, sings the Great Mandala:
And, because I'm a total vidiot, I chopped off the last 35 seconds. So, uh...here it is...
