As we await the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, please stay safe and strong! See you on the other side...

Everybody panic!

There are reports of a Frankenstorm (Hurricane Sandy) headed this way to destroy us all this weekend.  Is it true, or just a bunch of hype?  Who knows, but better get over to Key Food on Avenue A and buy up all the pork and beans just in case.

As we await the end of the world, let's remember the last time this happened when Hurricane, er...Tropical Storm Irene blew into town.  As I recall, that was one of the best Saturday nights to be in the East Village, as it was blissfully quiet and devoid of the usual obnoxious weekend party people.

But, seriously folks, be careful out there.  New Yorkers have a history of being too blasé in the face of danger.

Metamorphosis: Give Me Your Wings

Inspired by the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, artist Mr combines anime, toys, electronics, appliances, magazines, household items, trash and countless other objects in a chaotic jumble that's both playful and troubling.  You can read more about the concept behind the show, Metamorphosis: Give Me Your Wings, here.

Come undone

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, I highly recommend checking out Beth Cavener Stichter's Come Undone show at the Claire Oliver art gallery in Chelsea.  Her sculptures are startling and stunningly beautiful.
