The Tompkins Square hawk fledglings are getting harder to find as they grow up and expand their territory. This is the natural progression of things and is always hard to acknowledge that they are only here a few weeks before they head off on their own to migrate and explore the world.
I feel fortunate each time I can find them in the park.
Good morning!
Here are two of them perched together in the same tree.
I just like this photo because it shows the talons stretched out.
This is one of the fledglings perched on the dead umbrella tree near the flag pole.
It picked up a dead leaf and thrashed it around for a bit,
There are always critters to chase around in the vegetation.
Suddenly squirrel!
The hawk seemed perplexed by these squirrels who kept darting around (the one above has a nut in its mouth).
Unable to do anything about the squirrel situation, the hawk flew to the main lawn for better prey-catching opportunities.
Like this stick!
Taking a breather on a bench:
Off to investigate something else...
More to come..
