Sigh...the jukebox plays, there's quiet conversation, casual canoodling...Friday was a different boyfriend (what was his name?), Monday is still a million miles away.
Join us as we chronicle the lives of East Village red-tailed hawks, Christo, Amelia, Charlie, and Dora, as well as other New York City wildlife.

Swingers
My morning walk down Great Jones takes me by this window, which changes with the seasons. The little orange guy on the left is the friendliest, fluttering to the glass to say hello every time I pass.

Crashpad
I'm fascinated by places that look like someone has just stepped out of the visual frame, but it's really been abandoned forever. Feels like something just happened, but the mystery is in the future...what's to happen next? There was life here, but not right now. Will it return or will decay set in?

End of an era
This will be the winter from which the amusement park never escapes...make way for commercial flea markets where you'll be able to buy pictures of what you won't be able to enjoy.

It's that time of year...
The highlight of the holiday season for me is seeing what magic Bergdorf Goodman creates in their windows. This year, the theme was the Elements.

Cooper Square igloo
One of the things I love about the city is the unexpected...here we were on a beautiful sunny day that was fairly warm, and an ice structure mysteriously appeared in Cooper Square. People flocked around it, touched it, laughed, took pictures...some kids discovered they could melt their handprints into the blocks. It took about three days to melt.
Could it be a metaphor of the building in the background? A structure of glass bricks, hard and strong, but some day, it too will melt away into the history of the city.

Remembrance of things past
I took a walk around the meatpacking district the other day. I haven't been over there in quite a while and was shocked (although not really surprised) to find a giant high-rise going up right in the middle of some of the oldest storefronts.
In this photo, my back is to the new building and I am looking at a place whose glory days have long gone. The late afternoon sun was shining right on the "B" on the wall and it just gave me the feeling of time passing...too quickly for me to stop and way beyond my control.

Mechanics Alley
Just after sunset, the city takes on a mysterious air...shadows appear where there were none and the light keeps to the street, not daring to venture down dark alleyways.

Snowman, NYC style
I think this is the most awesome snowman I have ever seen. This was taken at a hot chocolate fair on W 18th St.
