  1. Love this photo, in 19 years of living in New York, I never ate there. I kept meaning to my last couple of weeks and just didn't get around to it. I hope it's still there next summer! I really miss the old school diners!

  2. This is one of my favorites too. Best counter in the city!

  3. Marty - you have to go! It's the only place I really feel at home. The food is a bonus. :)

And, like all things we love, I think their days are numbered. The building has sold and it doesn't sound like the new owners are interested in keeping the current businesses. The Stage has six years left on their lease, but who knows...experience it while you can.

  4. Yes! I love counter places - you just don't see them anymore, which is a shame. You can eat alone or choose to socialize...and socializing in here is something everyone should have the pleasure of experiencing. It's one of the few places I leave happier than when I entered.

  5. Little Poland and Eisenberg's both have welcoming counters... not as much socializing, perhaps?

  6. True, those are also good places. I think one difference is the Stage doesn't have tables, so it's tiny and intimate. It reminds me of my grandparents' kitchen from way back when.
